Big Walk doesn't hand you a map — you earn one. The in-game map is locked behind a progression chain on the ocean side of the island, built around the red tower. Here's the full route to the map room.
How to unlock the map
- Open the drawbridge. The big red bridge on the ocean side of the island is the gate to this whole chain — getting it open means clearing the four starting-area puzzles (crossing it also earns the Big Walk trophy).
- Reach the red tower. Past the drawbridge, head uphill to the red tower — the upside-down-cone structure above the gym area, per Game Rant's red tower solution.
- Power the tower's console. Place five red puzzle prizes into the cases on the tower roof. Game Rant documents the five puzzles that feed it, all visible from the tower top toward the shoreline: the yellow maze, a green button room, the train station's timer cannon, the basketball court and a mountain-overlook gesture puzzle. The tower then produces a blank key.
- Cut the key — five times. The first key-cutting machine sits right by the red tower's entrance; after each cut, the machine reveals an arrow marker pointing to the next one. Game Rant and Insider Gaming both describe five cuts in total, with the machines strung along the path leading down toward the gym.
- Open the map room. The finished key opens the locked blue doorway at the top of the tunnel with red stairs, near the tower — inside is the map room.
Step into the map room and visit the map to earn the Big View achievement.
What's inside the map room
According to Destructoid, Insider Gaming and Game Rant, the room holds two maps plus a bonus:
- A huge full-island diorama filling the room. It doubles as a completion tracker: Insider Gaming notes that finished puzzles get marked with a flag, and the prize figures tell their own story — standing up without a flag means the puzzle isn't done, laid down means the prize was collected but not yet turned in.
- A small foldable map you can carry. It can zoom into sections and shows coordinates — but it takes up carry space.
- A compass, found on a bench in the room (Game Rant).
The "4166, 1899" coordinate puzzle
The island's most famous oddity: a locked box beside a plank that reads only "4166, 1899", with no prompt or interaction at the box itself. GameSpot has a dedicated guide for it, and Destructoid's walkthrough explains the trick — those numbers are map coordinates, not a code:
- Unlock the map room first — the paper map on its table has the latitude/longitude grid you need (the big diorama doesn't show coordinates).
- Send one player to the coordinates — in the south of the island, on a rock face between a visible railway curve and the tunnel the chairlift line enters — where a button is camouflaged into the rock.
- Keep another player at the box. Pressing the hidden button pops the box open so the collectible inside can be grabbed.
It's strictly a co-op puzzle — it can't be done solo. Destructoid places the box near the train station cannon puzzle past the red tower, counting it toward the green tower's prize set.
How big is the island?
To be confirmed: The map's total size and the island's exact area have no verified figures yet. What we can say: it's one continuous open island with a train loop, a chairlift and secret tunnels as fast travel — big enough that a group of twelve can spread out and lose each other, which is rather the point.
Interactive community map
If you want a companion map while you play, an interactive community map exists on MapGenie — useful for tracking prizes, towers and collectibles between sessions.
What to do once you have the map
The map room pairs naturally with the island's fast travel: the train loops the island with several stations, and the chairlift and tunnels cover the rest. With the map unlocked, finishing the remaining towers and hunting the last achievements (see the trophy guide) gets much easier — and the ending waits whenever your group is ready.
