Big Walk takes about 12–15 hours to beat and reach the ending for a typical group. Plan on roughly 15–20+ hours for a thorough run with more optional puzzles, exploration and post-game cleanup.
Those are planning ranges, not a fixed timer. Big Walk is deliberately social and nonlinear, so a focused team and a group that stops to experiment with every strange object can finish several hours apart.
Updated 10 August 2026. Post-launch play reports now point to a longer first run than some early estimates. We use the newer 12–15-hour range for the main ending rather than the earlier 7–10-hour estimate.
Big Walk playtime at a glance
| Playstyle | Time to plan | What that includes |
|---|---|---|
| Focused first ending | ~12 hours | A coordinated group moving steadily through the main route |
| Typical first playthrough | ~12–15 hours | Puzzles, exploration, regrouping and normal social detours |
| Thorough / completion-focused run | ~15–20+ hours | Optional puzzles, post-game objectives, achievements and cleanup |
GamesRadar's completed playthrough puts the credits at 12–15 hours. GameSpot's overview gives a broader 12–20-hour range depending on exploration. Early completion posts also cluster around 15–18 hours, including a four-player 15-hour run and an 18-hour trophy run.
How long does Big Walk take to beat?
For most groups, 12–15 hours is the safest answer for reaching the main ending. That can fit into three or four evening sessions rather than one marathon.
The official FAQ calls Big Walk a long-form cooperative game designed for the same group to continue over multiple sessions. The host keeps the save and progress is recorded automatically, so everyone does not need to stay online until the credits.
Big Walk HLTB estimate: why the numbers vary
Crowd-sourced game-length averages are still settling because Big Walk has only just launched. A single unusually fast or slow submission can move an early average dramatically, so we do not treat an early HowLongToBeat number as the definitive answer.
For now, the best-supported estimate is:
- 12–15 hours to reach the ending in a normal first playthrough.
- 15–20+ hours for a group that explores thoroughly or chases the complete ending and achievements.
We will revisit this section when community databases have enough completed runs to produce a stable average.
Does player count affect Big Walk's length?
It can, but more players do not automatically mean a faster finish. The host chooses a world version for 2 players, 3 players or 4+ players, and parts of the world adapt to that choice, according to the official FAQ.
- Two or three players: usually easier to keep together and make decisions, but fewer people can search or solve in parallel.
- Four or more players: groups can split up and cover more ground, but regrouping, explaining discoveries and keeping track of items can add time.
- Very large groups: often spend more time socializing, experimenting with tools and deliberately getting lost. That is part of the appeal, not wasted time.
Puzzle difficulty, familiarity with co-op communication and how often the group uses challenge skipping will usually matter more than the exact headcount.
How long does a 100% run take?
Budget at least 15–20 hours for a completion-focused first run, and allow longer if your group wants to solve everything without outside hints. The main ending does not require every optional task; the post-game purple puzzles, remaining red prizes and achievements create a separate cleanup route.
Use the 100% checklist to track that route, the trophy guide for achievement requirements and the ending guide for spoiler-marked post-game details.
Can you finish Big Walk in one session?
Technically yes, but it is not how most groups should plan it. A relaxed schedule looks more like this:
- Session one — 3–4 hours: learn the communication tools and clear the opening area.
- Session two — 3–4 hours: work through the train, map and early tower objectives.
- Session three — 3–4 hours: continue the island route and prepare for the ending.
- Session four: finish the ending or use it for optional puzzle and achievement cleanup.
Because the host owns the save, use the same host when the group returns. Guests can rejoin the continuing world, but the host must start that saved session first.
Is Big Walk short?
No. At roughly 12–15 hours for the main journey, Big Walk is closer to a compact cooperative adventure than a short party-game run. Its length also depends on what your group values: solving efficiently, exploring every path, or simply spending time together on the island.
