Big Walk is available on Nintendo Switch 2. It supports 2–12 player online co-op and crossplay with friends on Steam, Mac and PS5. It is a Switch 2 title, not an original Nintendo Switch release.
The official Nintendo listing also confirms that online communication is required. On Switch 2, that means an active Nintendo Switch Online membership for the online multiplayer features.

Does Big Walk work on the original Switch?
No original Nintendo Switch version is listed. House House names Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Steam for Windows and Mac, and the Mac App Store as the supported platforms. The official FAQ says no other platforms are planned.
If a store result only says “Switch,” check the platform badge before buying. The Nintendo product page should identify Nintendo Switch 2 explicitly.
Does Switch 2 have crossplay?
Yes. Switch 2 players can join friends on every other supported platform. The host shares a Join Code when platform friends lists do not overlap, so a Switch 2 player can join a Steam or PS5 host without needing the same storefront account.
Version mismatches after a patch can temporarily prevent a group from connecting. If crossplay suddenly stops working, compare the first two parts of everyone's version number and check the official updates page.
Is there local or split-screen play?
No. Big Walk is online co-op only, and each player needs their own device and access to the game. A second pair of Joy-Con does not create a local two-player session on one Switch 2.
There is no solo mode either. The smallest supported world is built for two players, and puzzles rely on separated information, remote switches and the game's distance-based communication. See can you play Big Walk solo? for the exact limitations.
Switch 2 controls and mouse mode
Standard controller input is supported. The official Big Walk FAQ also says the game supports the Nintendo Switch 2's mouse mode. Big Walk uses independent arm gestures for pointing, waving and handling tools, so spend a few minutes learning those inputs before the group separates.
The full controls guide covers movement, arm controls, rebinding and accessibility options.
Performance and voice on Switch 2
Review impressions of the Switch 2 version describe a smooth online experience with the console's built-in microphone used for proximity voice chat — House House's titles require communication to stay inside the game's own audio, so the review recommends using the Switch 2 mic with headphones plugged in, and found handheld mode generally works better than docked for that purpose. The version runs at a locked 30 fps with some visible pop-in and low-quality vegetation at a distance, which reviewers note are minor.
Accessibility settings, a built-in mute button and noise suppression are included. Progress stays tied to the player who hosted the session, so the same player must host to continue the group's save. Players are friends-only — there is no matchmaking with randoms — and if a teammate gets lost, firework stations and large glowing balls can be used as long-range signals to find them.
Should your group choose Switch 2?
Choose it if portability matters and everyone already has the required online membership. Crossplay means the whole group does not need to buy the same version, and the host can be on another platform.
Before starting, decide who will host because that person keeps the shared save. For a complete storefront comparison, including Steam, PS5 and Mac, see the platforms guide.
