To unlock Big Makeover in Big Walk, paint a character with the metallic colors hidden inside the tunnel network. Ordinary paint near the beginning does not satisfy the achievement's “get shiny” description. First unlock the big tunnels through the yellow tower, then reach the secret salon and have a teammate apply metallic paint.
The most repeatable video route starts at the tunnel entrance by the blue tower. Bring a light, follow the colored tunnel markers toward the hidden room and keep the group together at the multicolored bridge. When a metallic section is visibly applied, Big Makeover should unlock for the painted player.
Big Makeover quick steps
- Complete the yellow tower progression and open the big tunnel network.
- Travel to the blue tower and use its nearby tunnel entrance.
- Pick up or bring a light before entering the dark passage.
- Follow the route toward the green-marked pipe and mixed-color tunnels.
- Cross the multicolored bridge and descend near the red zigzag stairs.
- Enter the hidden makeover room with the metallic palette.
- Have a teammate paint at least one visible body section metallic.
Steam lists Big Makeover among Big Walk's 12 achievements, and the PlayStation version uses the same “Get shiny” condition as a trophy. The achievement is not tied to finishing the story or collecting every prize. Its real progression gate is access to the tunnel network.
Unlock the tunnels first
The yellow tower controls the island's big tunnel system. Your group needs puzzle prizes, the tower key progression and the completed unlock before the underground entrances become usable. If the entrance near the blue tower is closed, return to the yellow tower guide rather than searching for a secret exterior switch.
Entering any big tunnel also awards Big Tunnel if the player does not already have it. That makes the makeover route a good time to collect two achievements in one trip. Bring anyone who still needs the tunnel objective before the group disappears underground.
The tunnel passages are intentionally dark and their colors matter for navigation. The demonstrated blue entrance provides access to a light nearby, but carrying a known light from elsewhere is fine. Do not begin the route with every hand and backpack slot occupied by unrelated prizes.
Route from the blue tower entrance
Enter the tunnel near the blue tower and turn toward the passage identified by the green pipe or green color marker. At the next branch, take the right-hand route, drop into the lower passage and turn right again. Continue until the tunnel colors begin to mix rather than staying purely blue.
At the mixed-color section, move left toward the green tunnels and continue straight. Avoid dropping from the open edge where the route falls away; the correct path reaches a bridge made from several colors. Cross that multicolored bridge as a group.
Beyond the bridge, use the red zigzag staircase as the next landmark. Drop to the lower level shown by the route and enter the passage beneath it. The hidden makeover room lies at the end of this sequence.
Tunnel geometry can feel different when approached from another color entrance, which is why “start at blue” is more useful than a compass direction underground. If the group becomes separated, return to the last strong color landmark instead of guessing at every dark junction. A radio or walkie-talkie helps until walls or puzzle rules change how voices carry.
How to get shiny in the salon
The hidden room contains metallic paint options that are visually different from the ordinary colors available near the beginning of the game. Use the same co-op painting method: one player loads or uses the paint tool, and another player stands still to be painted. The person receiving the metallic finish is the one expected to earn Big Makeover.
Apply the paint clearly to a body section rather than tapping the character from too far away. The available metallic choices shown in existing guides include gold, silver and bronze tones, and the achievement does not require repainting every section. One clearly shiny section is the verified minimum demonstrated by guide sources.
If several players need the achievement, repaint them one at a time and wait for each unlock notification. Do not leave after the first person's trophy appears. The salon remains useful for group customization even after the achievement is complete.
Why normal paint does not work
The basic outdoor paint area changes a character's ordinary colors but does not make the surface metallic. Big Makeover's wording is deliberately vague, so many players repeatedly use the starting palette and assume the achievement is delayed. The hidden tunnel palette is the missing requirement.
This also explains why the objective is easier in the middle of a playthrough than at the start. The group must progress far enough to open the yellow-tower tunnels, but it does not need the black tower or an ending. Add the salon to the route as soon as the tunnel network opens.
If Big Makeover does not unlock
Check the paint type. The character should have a metallic sheen from the hidden salon, not a flat basic color. If the finish looks ordinary, reload the paint tool at the secret palette and try another body section.
Swap who applies the paint. Big Walk customization is cooperative, and a second player should perform the painting action. Have the target stand still in open space so the interaction lands on the character rather than the wall or tool.
Wait for the wearer, not the painter. The objective describes the character getting shiny, so verify the achievement on the account that received the metallic paint. Repeat the process separately for every group member who needs it.
Record the version before reloading. If the metallic finish is visible but the achievement remains locked, note the platform and game version, end the host session normally and try again after rejoining. Do not reset progress or edit a save for an achievement that can be repeated.
Best time to do the route
Go immediately after the yellow-tower tunnel unlock, while the route and key stations are still familiar. Combine the trip with Big Tunnel, radio-channel exploration and any underground item search, but leave space to carry the light. This reduces late-game backtracking without mixing the salon objective into the ending sequence.
For a Platinum or 100% run, mark Big Makeover complete before entering the black tower. It is not confirmed as permanently missable, but clearing it earlier removes uncertainty from final cleanup. The 100% guide places it alongside Big Pack, Big Help and Big Climb as a deliberate side objective.
